Understanding El Niño & La Niña
🌡️ El Niño — Warming Phase
Warmer-than-normal sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean. Causes increased rainfall in South America's Pacific coast, droughts in Brazil's northeast, and more intense Atlantic hurricanes.
❄️ La Niña — Cooling Phase
Cooler-than-normal sea surface temperatures. Brings heavier rainfall and flooding to Brazil, intensified hurricane seasons, and drought conditions in parts of the U.S. Southwest.
